{"id":1131,"date":"2018-04-24T04:56:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T04:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/telekinetics.eu\/wp\/?p=1131"},"modified":"2018-06-08T11:33:45","modified_gmt":"2018-06-08T11:33:45","slug":"an-iot-bill-of-materials","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/telekinetics.eu\/wp\/?p=1131","title":{"rendered":"An IoT Bill of Materials"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Building an IoT BOM takes into account several\u00a0 areas of interest which can be roughly grouped as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The items to be perceived\/sensed<\/li>\n<li>Physical\u00a0 interaction layer: manufacturing sensor, design time\u00a0 &amp; run time equipment, home device sensors<\/li>\n<li>The network ( far-edge)\u00a0 which carries perceived\u00a0 data for processing, and\u00a0 interaction messages for controlling\u00a0 the items to be perceived<\/li>\n<li>The near-edge device(s), or cloud interface, which support\u00a0 processing in the data and control layers as well as grid\/cloud computing and software network evaluation<\/li>\n<li>Services layer including configuration ( Network and indicator ), user management,<\/li>\n<li>Processing and analytics<\/li>\n<li>Data extract and integration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All of these components have a certain energy\u00a0 footprint\u00a0 to be taken into\u00a0 account in the design of an IoT system and subsequent BoM relating to the evaluation\/measurement, or manufacturing chain.<\/p>\n<p>Once the complete E2E operational footprint is taken into account it shall be possible to offset operational\u00a0 costs against savings to be gained as value through the implementation.<\/p>\n<p>The IoE\/BoM should include the necessary measurement and monitoring components providing capability of\u00a0 capturing operational information,\u00a0 and comparing with target metrics.These management components are added as a\u00a0 sub-set of the total processing components listed above.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, the operational profile should include the people necessary to run the system in an acceptable manner within the stated SLA&#8217;s.
